Yes indeedy! I’m finally going to have a creative piece published. Woo! I got the letter yesterday, and barely glanced at it at first (expecting it to be a form rejection), but then I noticed the envelope, the official looking envelope…
And I say again: WOOOOOOOOOOO!
I’m also not too proud to say that I accompanied that woo with an Ashley Simpson style jig (which I executed with more exuberance and none of the associated shame in celebration).
It’s not like I send out creative stuff a lot. I’ve actually only done it a couple of times (not to two magazines, but in two batches). Once when I was still a student, and once just a few months ago. I expected a whack of rejections, not because I think I suck or anything, but because I rhyme a lot which is considered tacky in contemporary poetry. (For the record, I don’t do any of that light/night/bright crap, but still. Rhyming ain’t cool.)
Anyhoo, who cares about that now, because The Antigonish Review (TAR) decided to Show. Me. The Love.
Ya, I said Antigonish. Me and the Antigonishites (Antigonishies?) are homies now.
Meanwhile, back at Nerd Headquarters:
It's camp time.
This weekend is the district wide Girl Guide Camp. Later this afternoon, me and my eleven attending girls will join the rest of the area’s troupes to take a ferry, followed by a school bus over to the Sunshine Coast for a weekend of… well, insanity, I expect. We’re sleeping in huts (which are basically roofless wood structures with tarps thrown over them). Many of the girls in my group have never been away from home before. So there’s DEFINITELY not going to be any crying, and I’m sure I’ll get plenty of sleep… right?
I’ll be back on Sunday, which also happens to be the day my sister and her husband arrive for a weeklong visit. Therefore, next week is also likely to be insane, and I will likely be absent from the blah-og.
If you miss me, picture me doing the aforementioned jig.
